Home away from Home, Enero, 2007

Thanks Tom for the loan of your comfortable apartment over the New Year holiday. It was a perfect base to explore Madrid and close to Atocha station for our trips to Toledo and Segovia. Thanks also for the recomendations for local bars - loved the tostas at Melos!! It was warm and comfortable and great to have the internet and TV for those lazy siesta afternoons.

Gracias Tom.
new year in madrid, Enero, 2008

<DIV> we discovered madrid in 4 days. thanks to mr. tom ferguson, we started our trip with good suggestions. he gave us (spontaneous) a lot of information. we were also glad to have some suggestions to go out in local restaurants, to eat tapas, drink a good glass of wine... During our stay in the apartment, it was possible to contact the owner for further information.
the apartment is rather small (for 4 people), but it is sufficient (and clean !). the relation price-comfort is fair.
thanks tom !
Delightful apartment, delightful host!, Diciembre, 2008

We (a family of four) stayed in the burhardilla in October this year. It suited us perfectly as we were on a budget and we were able to save on eating out as there are grocery shops quite close by. It was very clean and well-equipped and the IKEA decor is very pleasant. There's a full sized-fridge, a microwave and a toaster, pots, pans dishes etc - everything you need! I managed to wash several loads in the washing machine, which dried successfully hanging on the clothes rack. The beds were very comfortable and the view glorious.
Tom was a fantastic host - helping us up the five flights with our suitcases. (Those five flights are the only downside for people to consider). Tom also offered to dry clothes for us in his own flat - though in the end we did not need this. He also gave us his telephone number so we could contact him if we needed to.
If you like cats (which we do) there's an opportunity to feed the locals rooftop-dwellers. However, if you don't like cats, just ignore them when they come to the window and they go away.
The buhardilla's advantages for us were that it was cheaper than for four of us at a hostel, while being private, quiet, offering self-catering, and also being close to the Metro.
The TV and DVD player worked well, though we couldn't figure out the internet. We did not have to sign contract papers for our stay nor pay a security deposit nor a cleaning fee. (Of course we repaid Tom's trust and left the flat in good order.)
I highly recommend Tom's buhardilla for your stay in Madrid, especially if you are a couple or a family and want self-catering facilities. The location is 5 minutes walk from the Reina Sofia Museum and Altocha railway station and 8 minutes from The Prado. The Lavapies Metro is just a block or so away. We had no difficulty walking with our wheeled suitcases.
Thanks again Tom!
In the heart of Madrid, Julio, 2006

In the heart of Madrid, high above the vibrancy of Spanish city life, nested in the almost unnatural tranquillity of the rooftop landscape of the city, lays Tom’s apartment.
The apartment in Madrid’s centre renders the need for public transportation almost redundant. Parks, Museums, historic districts, bars, restaurants and nightclubs are in the vicinity. Shopping precincts of diverse types, cash machines, grocery stores and a supermarket are within easy reach
Rest, after a long day shopping, sight seeing or a night out is assured in this clean and quiet apartment. The air-conditioning in both rooms kept us cool on hot days and the DVD’s, CD’s cable TV und internet connection kept us entertained when we stayed at home.Yes home! This cosy apartment became our home within a short space of time. The modern appliances: large refrigerator, ceramic cooker, washing machine, microwave oven, toaster, water heater etc. made it easier for us to feel at home, leaving us relaxed and refreshed each new day for exploring Madrid …
